The Madonna and the Christ child is a long standing subject in the fine art world. Generally, Jesus is not portrayed as a child of color nor is his mother Mary. The woman with her child, who slowly emerged in this portrait, spoke to me of a love, strength, beauty and bearing far more powerful and enduring than religion, prejudice or hatred. She seemed to me to represent the true Madonna.
