This piece is titled, “biG” and inspired by a dream I had encouraging myself and others to dream, think, prepare, anticipate big.
Pictured is an African American child in black and white opposite of brilliant orange letters. Rudimentary conventional shapes are seen around and above letters also a rectangular shaped portal that the child is looking through as he stands behind a gate also symbolic of the confines of conventionalism and his teetering desire between societal norms and his individualism to challenge that which he’s been taught to believe.
Also the letter, “i” is seen a message to himself to be who he 'is' and the process and courage it takes to be an individual he’s born to be is demonstrated by the repetition of that letter.
Mid way the letter, “i” becomes a deconstructed division symbol as the child is exacting math like measures in his mind to be this individual. Alas, the child has resolved his quest for individuality, liberating himself the letter, “i” is now an exclamation mark wherein the child, no longer explaining or reasoning his individuality but boldly exclaiming it and now ascending to GOD heights.
Also pictured the capital letter, “G” is circled the way elevator numbers are symbolic of the child’s ascension.
My choice of medium for this submission is graphite and use of other materials adhered to paneled wood.
