“#iamnotahashtag” examines the individuality and strength of a strong African-American woman, scholar, poet and mother, in the space of Black Lives Matter, and the violence in the wake of Trayvon Martin. Depicted with the laundry and quilt, this piece looks at the ways in which women have historically escaped both physical slavery, domestic slavery and group identification to break out of social movements as individuals and to stand strong, supported by their history and herstory.
