Undercurrents calls into question our challenge to recognize the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission through the symbolic metaphor of marriage, abandonment of children in residential schools, the idea of industry vs. The land and reclamation of relationships between colonists and indigenous peoples of Canada. Referencing the land as area where the Group of Seven defined “Canada” with the painted imagery of the LaCloche area, points to our view of Canada as colonists, as an empty land, devoid of the relationships and inhabitation of indigenous peoples from time immemorial. Undercurrents calls into question our relationship and identity in reconciliation, as Canadian.
