This piece began as an essay presentation for a course in Cultural Psychology for the Pacifica Graduate Institute’s Ph.D. in Depth Psychology, specialization in Integrative Therapy and Healing Practices in early Spring 2020, as COVID-19 pandemic was taking off and taking over the nation and world. The artist then choreographed the piece with hand-movements that related to its content. This piece attempts to channel the archetype of Renaissance in order to balance the obvious force of Revolución within this monumental year for the world, and more specifically for the re-birth of a nation of these United States. This hand-choreographed poetic essay presented in a video format by the writer himself, a first-generation Vietnamese-American refugee of war immigrant, is a re-look at the old notion of patriotism with an Eastern blend of matriatism suitable for the times and its near future. Jungian and archetypal psychologies are critically examined and queered in this piece for their contributions to the new normal of the new roaring ‘20’s. Reflections on insights from psychotherapeutic practice and archetypal psychology’s aim at bringing therapeutic attention toward anima mundi (soul of/in the world) are also analyzed and appreciated in this piece.
