Wilbur’s journal of pictures reflected the life & experiences all around him. He delighted in capturing the moment in which one exists, and in this picture (circa. 1970s) a little boy casually enjoying his can of Coca-Cola looks up into the lens, capturing the essence of Coke’s slogan at the time - “Look Up America.”
The “Look Up” campaign came following a dirty time in America, where political scandal & uncertainty filled the headlines, while racial disparities lay in the background. Wilbur just happened to capture a quick moment with this puppy-eyed little boy, in a stained little shirt and dusty knees as he sipped on America’s favorite drink.
A world traveler, who took many a pictures of villagers and panhandlers in every part of the world, found this little fella (his son) right in his own backyard at the perfect moment to snap this picture.
