Ian Alonzo

Ian AlonzoI'm a California native, scholar-athlete, aspiring architect, and a senior in high school. I'm a member of the National Honors Society and the Specialized Art Diploma Program at my high school. I often visit art museums and participate in art contests; I have received awards and recognition for my artwork. During my spare time, I like to play basketball and video games; work out and listen to music. I will be attending college in the fall and studying architecture. At about the age of three, my grandfather, a self-taught artist, introduced me to the world of art by drawing my favorite characters. I was amazed by how he could look at an object or picture and make it come to life right before my very eyes; it brought joy to my life. I developed a love for art and began to realize that I, too, can draw. I've been inspired by art most of my life and have learned that it is vital to a thriving society.

As a future African American architect, I want to carry on my grandfather's legacy as an artist and help make the world a better place through art and creativity and by using my voice to create change.
