Larry Johnson

Larry JohnsonLarry Johnson is an Inglewood-based artist working in an eclectic painting style. As a painter of the human form I mix imagery of quite singular portraits and group scenes of people gathered together, giving the viewer the feeling of stumbling into the situation. His painterly style gives a strong sense of movement and energy that is contrasted beautifully with the intimacy of the figures. His paintings are juxtaposed with imagery that reflects socially conscious historic and contemporary issues.

After graduating from high school he entered the U S Navy, and served as a French linguist for four years, living overseas in Rota, Spain and at the NSA Fort Meade, Maryland before returning to Los Angeles. After a long departure from art and academia working as a Graphic Designer for over 20 years, he enrolled at Los Angles Southwest College, rekindling his passion for painting prior to transferring to the University of Southern California Roski School of Art and Design where he went on to complete his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2016. He later continued his education acquiring a Master of Science in Integrated Design, Business and Technology which enables to merge his passions, skills and business acumen to fuel his creative spirit even more.
