Nya Simone is a Leimert Park based visual artist. She began to show a serious interest in art at the tender age of 5yrs old. As she spent time enjoying the ‘playground of paint’ in her father’s studio, the interest began to manifest as paint on canvas. Her goals at the advanced age of 11 are to ‘just paint what I feel like.’ It sounds like a familiar rebel call of all the greats. She has a leaning toward acrylics and water colors on canvas at this point in her career. As time goes on I’m sure that rebel spirit will incorporate multiple mediums and take her in directions unknown. Hopefully we, the observers, will get to go on that journey with her.
