The kind of music I write is very much influenced by musicals. When I wrote the music for Merry Go Round I planned on it being a song with lyrics. But I had trouble thinking of what to write about, so I tried listening to it from a different angle, and I began to hear a carousel style song. In the end, that's what we recorded.
